Prescribed Bodies Corporate

The Native Title Act 1993 requires that native title holders establish a Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) to hold and manage their native title rights and interests. Determined claims are not removed from the Register of Native Title Claims until the PBC is determined.

Once a PBC is registered, its main purpose is to represent native title holders in any future act or Indigenous Land Use Agreement. The PBC is the contact point for others who have an interest in the area such as pastoralists, governments or developers.
